FA-Lexicon: Examination

Documentation =
Marking on map + make a Photo

👀 Looking 👀 into your mouth during a self-examination is one thing – but documenting what you see is just as important!

The two most important steps are:
1. Draw & describe on the mouth map 📝
2. and take a picture of it 📷

The app makes it simple

The app guides you intuitively through the process:

  • If you have discovered a new spot, draw it in the appropriate area, describe it by using the given terms (or note field) and take a photo of it.
  • If you have an already documented spot that has changed, simply use the old documentation as a basis for new markings/notes/photos.
  • With just one click, share your complete inspection (mouth map + texts + photos) with your doctor, research team, and anyone else who may be interested.
Right/Left – this is the challenge!

Right means where the thumb is on the left? If it was only that easy… It does require a lot of concentration when drawing the visible spot you found in your mouth onto the mouth map. So you want to make sure it is done correctly – this is really very important!

Example:
You find a small spot in your right cheek. Our „right“ is the view from behind you, i.e. „outward-looking from the mouth“. However, if you look at the mouth map, you are looking from in front of you, i.e., „into the mouth“ – the situation is thus mirrored.

This means, that your RIGHT cheek
is LEFT on the map!

Good Photos are…
…not easy to take!
It’s not always easy to get sharp and well-exposed photos without assistance. We have put together some tips & tricks that will help you and your assistants to take good photos of the different parts of your mouth. Click on the icon link opposite!
The orientation while taking photos…
If you look at photos of the mouth or tongue, you don’t always know whether the photographed areas are on the right or left side of the mouth. The reason is that depending on the camera and the mobile phone model you use, the pictures can be displayed differently. For example, you will get different results if you used the front camera of the phone (front camera) as compared to using the back camera (rear or main camera). You will also get different results in “selfie mode” versus someone else taking the photo in “normal” mode. So it can be complicated!
That´s why you should make sure that you ALWAYS mark on the correct side of the mouth map!
Attention: Data loss!

This app stores all data ONLY on your phone!

NOTHING is automatically sent anywhere or stored on a cloud as a backup.
Therefore, regularly (at least every 3 months) retrieve your documentation PDFs via email from your cell phone or share them with your medical team for example.
